Creating Inclusive Culture

Growing Strong Teams and Cultures Workshop Series from LIFT Economy

Friday, May 30th 2025 | 10a-11:30a PST

Navigate Difficult Dynamics and Power Imbalances

Creating an inclusive workplace culture is essential for fostering innovation, collaboration, and team satisfaction. The Creating Inclusive Culture workshop is designed to help you understand the importance of inclusivity and develop strategies for creating a more diverse and welcoming work environment. This 90-minute online session, with an optional 30-minute Q&A, will provide you with some of the knowledge and tools to support you through difficult dynamics to grow a culture where everyone feels valued and respected.

You will learn how empathy can help us navigate difficult dynamics, especially when power imbalances exist. Those in positions of power often lack awareness of their influence, while those with less power are often acutely aware and bear more emotional labor during interactions. You will learn that acknowledging the imbalance of risk and expressing understanding of the power dynamic can support psychological safety. The workshop will also support you to discern when dynamics of hierarchy influenced by historical inequities and stereotype threats get interpreted as personal traits.

In this workshop, we'll explore the elements of repair in the workplace, recognizing that impact can occur regardless of intent.  We'll move beyond blame and societal conditioning around apologies to understand the true impact of our actions on others and learn that through empathetic listening and genuine acknowledgment of harm, you can offer meaningful repair that fosters a more inclusive and understanding workplace culture.

By creating an inclusive workplace culture, organizations can attract and retain top talent, improve morale, and enhance overall performance. The workshop will include interactive discussions and real-life examples, allowing you to explore new perspectives and develop actionable plans for promoting inclusivity in your own life and organization. Whether you are a leader looking to drive change or an individual seeking to make a difference, this workshop will provide you with the insights and skills you need to succeed.

Join us for an inspiring session that will empower you to create a more inclusive and vibrant workplace culture. Register now to be part of the movement toward greater diversity and inclusion.

I'm a an artist, activist, and educator with a deep interest in the intersections of community, emotional intelligence, and trauma. I also teach and practice Insight Meditation and am a certified trainer in Nonviolent Communication (NVC). NVC is a powerful modality that helps us connect with others and our own emotions and values for more effective and healing interactions.

Over the years, I've conducted workshops and training sessions on communication, racial justice, and meditation for various organizations, including Google, the Kellogg Foundation, UC Berkeley, the Insight Meditation Society, and the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute. I also provide support in mediations and facilitate restorative circles.

Since 2018, I have served as a partner and co-owner at LIFT Economy, a worker-owned cooperative consulting firm dedicated to empowering businesses to be a force for good. Additionally, living in intentional communities has been part of my journey. My experiences have given me an in-depth understanding of the complexities and challenges associated with communal living, collaborative work, and collective decision-making. I am particularly passionate about assisting individuals and organizations in cultivating healthy, thriving cultures. Additionally, I'm deeply involved in improvisational theater, freestyle rap, dance, and writing. Currently, I'm working on an Afrofuturistic sci-fi novel.

You can listen to my engaging discussion with Sharon Salzberg on fierce compassion and self-care at a presentation for Google Talks.
